Theatre, performance, role play, participatory
With support from Goethe-Institut Beijing and Shanghai
Centered on the concept of an “art ecosystem,” the project introduces structures of social negotiation into live practice through role-playing and theatrical mechanisms. The work reveals how different functional roles operate within the art system, and responds to the tensions present in the contemporary Chinese context—between individual artistic practice and institutional structures, and between public value and cultural expression.
There are no spectators on site. All participants are placed into distinct roles—including artists, art associations, art institutions, and audiences. Through game mechanics and improvised participation, they are free to choose, negotiate, compete, and collaborate, collectively advancing the narrative of the art system. The project explores how, within compressed and constrained conditions, a parallel space can be created—how individuals act within it, and how systems are continuously rewritten.
